At sunset on Thursday, April 8, 2021, Gail James passed away peacefully with her husband and children at her side. Gail was born on October 23, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia, the eldest daughter of Joseph and Carolyn Wright. She moved to Oregon with her family as a teenager. She served as Executive Vice President of Trailhead Credit Union in Portland, Oregon for nearly 35 years. It was while working at the credit union, that she met her husband, Gus James, who was working at Northwest Natural Gas across the street. After three weeks of dating, Gus was convinced he had found his soulmate and proposed. They married on October 26, 1985 and together they raised a son, Brian, and a daughter, Carolyn. Until their retirement, two years ago, Gail and Gus drove to work and ate lunch together every day.
Gail was a music enthusiast who enjoyed a broad range of genres. It wasn’t unusual for her children (or even grandchildren) to learn about popular new songs from her. She cherished spending time at home with her family. She was very thoughtful and loved to give. Friends and family never left her house without treats, gifts and vegetables from her garden. Like her father, she enjoyed the Oregon Coast and visited often. She made frequent trips to Georgia as well to visit her parents and family there. Gail had an amazing sense of humor and was quick to make friends with her congenial personality. She was known for her compassion and selflessness.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Joe. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Carolyn, her sisters, Brenda and Susan, her husband, Gus, her son, Brian and his wife Margaret, her daughter Carolyn and her husband Brandon, her grandchildren, Lily, Elliot and Aubrey and many other family members and friends. The family will be having a private service for Gail at Pegg, Paxton and Springer in Beaverton, Oregon.
