

Our wonderful, devoted mother, Jean Elenor Benedict, 90, passed away peacefully on Mother's Day. She was born at home in Independence, Oregon on August 26, 1925 to Neil and Nellie Currie. Jean grew up in Hopewell, Oregon. After graduation from Amity High School, she moved to Salem to work at Western Electric. That is where she met Frank Benedict and they were married on December 31, 1948. Eventually they moved to Portland, where Frank was a Portland Firefighter for the City of Portland, to raise their family. Frank died of a heart attack on July 4, 1963.
While raising their girls, Jean worked part-time at Montgomery Wards. She retired after 25 years, she enjoyed camping and beach trips with the family, plus traveling with family and friends to the western states, California, Hawaii, Alaska, East Coast. Always supportive, kind & ready to lend a helping hand, above all she treasured her time with her grandchildren & great grandchildren.
She was a faithful walker and enjoyed gardening-- especially tending the roses and strawberry patch. Jean was a great example of God’s faithfulness and “Currie” determination. Her faith and her family were the most important things in her life. She was a member of St Johns Christian Church for many years. After moving to SW Portland, she transferred her membership to Beaverton Christian as well as Grace Point Community Church in Tigard.
Jean is survived by her daughters: Elaine Benedict of Portland, Kathy Hambleton (Patrick) of Portland, and Diane Kintigh (Paul ) of Eugene; her brother Jim Currie of Hemet, CA; grandchildren: Noelle Teran of Portland, Tommy, Jason & Ryan Hambleton of Portland and Joshua Kintigh of Coos Bay, Emily Kintigh of Eugene, & Adam Kintigh of South Bend, Indiana, and she was Gramma Jean & GiGi to thirteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Robinson, and her brother, Robert Currie.
There will be a celebration of Jean's life at the Beaverton Christian Church on May 23, 2016 at 2pm, officiated by her grandson, Joshua Kintigh, with a reception to follow
