

John (Jack) Henry Baumbach, 92, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in Laramie, Wyoming on July 18, 1923. Following high school graduation, Jack attended Vanport College for two years then took correspondence courses in electronics with Devry Technical Institute. Jack served our country in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 then was honorably discharged. After the war, Jack was actively involved with the Catholic War Veterans (CWV) Post 442 where he held various offices including treasurer, marshal, and vice-commander. He met Mildred (Milly) Flynn at one of the CWV events, and the two married on May 28, 1949 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Portland, Oregon. They had five children: Sharon, Kenneth, Joanne, James, and William. Jack and Milly were married for 63 years until Milly’s death in 2012.
Throughout his career, Jack worked for Pennzoil Co. for 15 years then Lindsay Bros. until he retired in 1985. As a retiree, Jack delivered food with Meals on Wheels for 20 years. He enjoyed reading, swimming, traveling, bowling, serving others, and spending time with family. Jack was an active member first at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for many years then at Holy Trinity Catholic Church for the past 43 years. He served in many ways from singing in the choir, reading, and acting as a Eucharistic Minister. Jack bowled in numerous leagues throughout his entire life, including Wii bowling at the Beaverton Lodges. He was a devoted husband and father. Jack is survived by his five children (and their spouses), four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Monday, June 20, 2016. He was interned with military honors at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Donations in his honor may be made to either Meals on Wheels or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
