Our mother, grandmother and friend, Mary Genevieve Dolan passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015 with a smile on her face; exactly how she lived her life. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Don Dolan, and her parents Robert and Bertha Lynn and brother, Robert Lynn.
Mary was born in Lake Benton, Minnesota and traveled with her family at age 17 to Portland in search of a better life during the depression. She graduated from Grant High School and began a career as a secretary. In her late twenties she met Don who she married within six months of meeting. They were best friends who lived a full and happy life together, working hard to create security for their family, with Mary focusing on her role as a dedicated mother.
Mary was a role model in her many interests and fitness pursuits. Among them, tennis, golf and water volleyball with the MerryMacs. She was one of the first women in the Portland area to jog 1,000 miles (in her Keds!). She was a talented gardener, crafter and seamstress besides being a hardy traveler in their RV and ’64 red Chevy convertible. She was a big support to her husband in his many interests, with organizations, friends, and her church community.
Mary shared great delight in her family relationships. Surviving her are daughters, Janice Dolan of Portland and Colleen Dolan McGough (Peter) of Seattle. She loved being a grandmother to Cara and Conor McGough, who opened her heart to additional joy.
Our mother was gracious, much fun to be with and kind. Our hearts are heavy, however, our memories are full of treasures she left us in our hearts.
Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday March 28, 2-4pm at the Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 S.W. Salmon , Portland. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Housecall Providers, 5100 S.W. Macadam Ave., Portland OR 97239, www.housecallproviders.org
