Maurice Donald Hillyer passed away on November 26, 2020 in Beaverton, Oregon. Maurice was born in Washington, Kansas to David Bernard Hillyer and Ruth Katrine Hillyer on December 9, 1932. His family moved to The Dalles, Oregon in 1947 where Maurice spent his high school years developing his love and natural talent as a basketball player. It was in high school where he got the lifelong nickname, Twinks.
Maurice left The Dalles to attend Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. During college, Maurice enlisted in the Army where he served two years overseas, and after returning from his time in the service, continued at Linfield and attained his Bachelor’s Degree.
In 1959, Maurice married Margaret, and she remained by his side for over sixty-one years until his passing.
Maurice spent his career in accounting, working for a Portland accounting firm before leaving to work for the State of Oregon, Commerce Division, where he retired as a Securities Examiner.
One of Maurice’s passions was basketball and youth sports, where he spent over 30 years as a volunteer coach with most of that time in the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District boys and girls basketball programs. He later went on to coach youth fast-pitch softball before returning to his passion as a basketball coach.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Margaret, three sons, Michael (Casey) of Bellevue, Washington, Gregory (Tami Gardner) of Beaverton, Oregon and Bruce (Kelly), also of Beaverton; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Jake and Emily.
