Nancy Ruth Casey Lander, 97, of Texas and Portland, Oregon, joined family members as February came to a close, returning home to join her husband, brother, sisters, and parents whose deaths preceded hers. Her daughter was by her side, and she was supported by the caring staff at Autumn Hills Memory Care where she had resided for the last three years of her life.
Nancy was born December, 19, 1924 in Vickery, Texas, and spent her childhood in Denison, Texas. She earned a BS in Education at Texas Women’s University, and taught math for several years in Dallas, Texas. She was involved in the community at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. Many caregivers at Autumn Hills covertly claimed that she was their “favorite,” because of her smile and cheerful personality. She traveled when she could, and enjoyed visiting new places and meeting new people. Her grandchildren were a source of great joy.
Nancy is survived by her son, Lanny Lander of Tennessee, and daughter Margaret Thompson, of Oregon. Nancy is loved by granddaughters Sarah Lander, Meredith McClure, and Christen LaVigne. She is also celebrated by her great-grandchildren Sylvan Rainey, Dani LaVigne, and Gabi LaVigne, and remembered fondly by nieces, nephew, and their children. Nancy joins her parents, Cecil and Bess Casey, her brother Cecil, her sisters Mary, Frances and Jeanne, and her dear husband Al Lander in the world beyond.
Nancy will be celebrated by family members in both Oregon and Texas, representing different phases and loves of her life.
