Pham Thi Chau

Phẩm Thị Châu (101) passed away at 5:55 p.m. on December 18th, 2017 at her home in Hillsboro. After 21 months of recovering from a series of strokes, she went to be with the Lord. At the time of her death and many weeks prior to that, she was surrounded by loving family and friends.

Phẩm was born in Tràm Chẹt, Việt Nam. She grew up in the countryside and cultivated the farmland. She married Nhượng Hưng Võ, and together, they raised nine children. After enduring her husband’s death, she immigrated to the United States in 1993. Through her own ambition to learn English, she passed the citizenship test and became a citizen. Throughout life, Phẩm was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Andrew Dũng Lạc Catholic Church. She was involved in many fundraisers to promote the church’s construction. She was a beloved member of Hội Các Bà Mẹ Công Giáo, a society of Catholic mothers dedicated to serving the community through Christ.

During her final months, Phẩm’s recovery was a testament to her strength and perseverance to live life to the fullest. She was a beacon of strength, a source of consolation, and a ray of hope to her family, friends, and many with whom she met. Her spirit remained strong; her faith in the Lord never hindered. She was a model of love, patience, endurance, and kindness. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, we owe her the greatest love and appreciation for all that she’s given us. Her spirit lives on. She will always be the steady rock that holds us together.
