Roberta Mary Schreck passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 78. She was born on April 18, 1946, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to her devoted parents, Andrew and Dorothy Richárd.
Roberta grew up with a strong Catholic faith, which she carried throughout her life. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Bellevue, Washington, graduating from Bellevue High School in 1964 before continuing her education at Seattle University. It was there, during the Freshman Orientation Cruise Social, that she met the love of her life, F. Patrick Schreck. The two were married on June 3, 1967, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bellevue and shared a beautiful marriage of 58 years.
Roberta dedicated her life to her family and community. She was a homemaker who also worked as a bank teller at U.S. Bank and later as a receptionist and volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital. Her deep involvement in her children’s schools—St. Pius X School and Jesuit High School—was a testament to her unwavering support for their activities and education.
In 1983, Roberta co-founded the Women’s Bible Study at St. Pius X Parish a group that continues to thrive today. Her faith and kindness touched everyone she met. Even as she faced Parkinson’s disease, her radiant smile and loving eyes left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Roberta was an extraordinary baker whose creations—cinnamon rolls, pies, almond roca, and more—were cherished by family and friends alike. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother to Patrick James Schreck, Andrew Frank Schreck, Douglas Martin Schreck, Christopher Matthew Schreck, and Renée Marie Schreck-Lara, and proud Nana to 13 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Portland on January 24, 2025. The Rosary will begin at 10:15am and the Mass will commence at 11:00am. For those unable to attend the Mass, a livestream will be available at www.stpius.org. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, or Parkinson's Voice Project. (see links below)
Roberta's legacy of love and faith will forever inspire those blessed to have known her.
