

After a life filled with adventure and curiosity, Thomas Carl McCue, 78, passed away in Beaverton, Oregon after a period of declining health from dementia and a recent fall. Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Tom was born July 8, 1947 in Portland, Oregon, the third son of Bernard William and Ruth Ileen (Smith) McCue. He grew up in Beaverton and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1965, and Graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. He also took undergrad classes at Portland Community College.
Tom spent his career as an Environmental Manager overseeing environmental regulatory activities at Oregon Steel Mills, Tektronix and Siltronic. He managed environmental permits and compliance, and was involved with program development, and regulatory legislation at the state and national levels. His last few years were involved in past practice contamination investigation and site restoration activities. Oregon Steel Mills (1977-1986), Tektronix Corp. (1987-1991), Siltronic Corp. (1991-2012), Maul Foster & Alongi (2012-2013) (consulting).
Tom had a passion for learning new things and enjoyed many activities including biking, rafting, canoeing, skydiving, golfing, fishing, woodworking, woodcarving, hiking, camping, traveling, and lots of time with family. He completed a major hiking goal in 2021 hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, overnighting at Phantom Ranch, and hiking back out. Tom made many beautiful things out of wood including furniture, cutting boards, planter boxes, and turned bowls. He always enjoyed having a project and spending time in his shop making sawdust! His family and friends have been the lucky recipients of his passion and many talents! He loved spending time with his four grandchildren and sharing his skills in woodworking, fishing, camping, card playing, and apple pie baking!
Since retirement in 2013, Tom and Marla have been Arizona snowbirds and have enjoyed traveling there and back visiting many National Parks and other sites, hiking in the desert, meeting new friends and enjoying the amenities of the 55+ community. Over the years, Tom belonged to the Hiking Club, Car Club, Photography Club, and Woodworkers Club. He played some golf and pickle ball, had fun driving his Alfa Romeo, and enjoyed riding his bike.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents Ben & Ruth McCue, and his brother Richard McCue.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marla; daughter Tammi (Troy) Schneider of Tigard, OR; step-son Jeremy Burress of Hillsboro, OR; grandsons, Trey and Tarin Schneider, granddaughters Samantha and Alexandra Burress; brother Donald (Marian) McCue.
A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date to be decided by the family.
