Joseph Scott Crist

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph “Scott” Crist, 55, of Fayetteville, WV. Scott went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 8:50P.M. surrounded by his loving family.

Born at Charlton Heights, WV, he was the son of Jeanie Brickell and the late Ivan Crist.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tommy and Lilly Willis whose greatest joy was being grandparents to him; and a special friend and lady who was like a second mother to him, Patricia Nutter.

Through his lifetime, Scott didn’t just make friends… he made lifelong friends. He loved without judgement and his kindness and love for life was revealed to each person he met. He was always happy and loved to joke and laugh.

Scott enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman with a great love and respect for the river. One of his greatest joys was being at the river, camping and fishing with family and friends.

Scott worked many years and long hours to provide for his family.

In 1991, Scott met his sweetheart and the love of his life, Judy Lewis. They shared 33 happy, wonderful years together.

Along with his devoted sweetheart, those left to love and cherish his memory include his mother, Jeanie Brickell and step-father, Donald Brickell; his son, Trey Crist; step-daughter, Samantha Lewis and husband Michael Hager; brother, Dale Crist; grandchild, Maci Ellen Crist who was the sparkle in his eye and the heart beat in his chest; aunt, Faye (Robert) Ewing; along will many nieces, nephews and an abundance of great friends.

Services will be 3:00P.M. Friday, February 2, 2023 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior beginning at 2:00P.M. Scott will be laid to rest in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, WV, following the services.

The family wishes to thank Tracy and Johnny for helping take care of him at home and the staff at Teays Valley Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Scott.
