John Christopher Murphy Jr.

John Christopher Murphy, Jr. passed away quietly on his 81st birthday, June 26, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis, IN, where he had resided all of his life. John enjoyed fishing, bowling, riding bikes with his grandchildren, but most of all, his skating years with his wife. All of which he did until he was 78 years old. Chris, as he was known by most, was a retired machinist from Schwitzer Corporation and Rexnard. He was always willing to help others when they needed help, and was able to fix just about anything that needed it. In his later years, he would find old bikes, fix them up and give them to the kids in his neighborhood that didn’t have one. It would be nothing for a child or their parent to show up on his doorstep wanting to know if he could fix their bike. He was looking forward to moving to Jacksonville, FL, this year to be near the rest of his family and his beloved Jacksonville Jaguars. His last vacations were to Florida to see his son, grandchildren, and meet his great grandchildren, then to Iowa, for the baptism of his great grandson, both trips of which he enjoyed and looked forward to returning to again.

In October, 2012, Chris was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He developed septic shock in July, 2015 as a result of kidney stones blocking his urinary system. He never fully recovered from this. He passed away quietly with his daughter and grandson at his side.

Chris is preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Hazel Murphy; his siblings, Doris, Rosie, Carol, and James. He is survived by his three children, Kevin (Lori) Murphy, Sean (Robin) Murphy, Erin Sain; his sister, Diane; his grandchildren Cheryl (Rick), Eric (Hope), Kandi (Ethan), Kevin, Sarah, Sabrina, and Jacob; his six great grandchildren Ellen, Blake, Addy, Gabriel, Nancy, and Eric Jr.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 734 Morgantown Road, Greenwood, Indiana.
