Lillian was born July 23, 1931, to Valentine and Helen Petac, in Cleveland, Ohio and then moved to Beech Grove, Indiana, at the age of 12. Lillian was married to William Strange, the love of her life, for 56 years. People often commented what a wonderful marriage they had. Her husband would remark “she’s a jewel”.
She graduated from Beech Grove High School and St Vincent’s School of Nursing, graduating as an RN. Her nursing career was mostly pediatric care. She was employed in Bedford, IN and Rise Learning Center, Indianapolis, IN. At Rise, she was employed for 16 years before retiring in 1990. She was very proud of starting the first health care center at the Rise Learning Center.
She was a devoted grandmother and her grandchildren adored her. Her favorite pastime, in addition to loving her family, was painting. Her favorites were water and acrylic painting. She also was an avid reader and could remember details from books read long ago. She was our Dad’s number one editor and number one fan! She enjoyed decorating her house and staying with the most current / HGTV trends. Lillian and Bill spent countless hours volunteering at the St. Vincent DePaul food bank.
She is survived by her children Anne (Greg) Piserchia, Joe Strange, Bill Strange, and Mary Anthony and her grandchildren Kate, Rachel (David) Johnson, Christina, Tommy, Jacob, Daniel (Adrian), Rebekah, Grace and Joe. She is preceded in death by her brother Val Petac and sister Helen Perushek.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10:00am. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Immediately following the burial there will be a mercy meal at Holy Name Catholic Church Hall, located between the church and the gym.
