On a spring day about four years before I happily reconnected with Kathy, Judi and Jeanne, via social media, my then six year old daughter was swinging at pitched baseballs while my two year old daughter stood behind me waiting to field the baseballs.

I would show my oldest how to stand with the bat.  Where to put her feet, hands and elbows.  How to delay the swing, keep her eye on the ball and so much more that goes into hitting the ball and playing the game.  Both girls spent time learning how to hit, throw and catch the ball as well as the basic rules of the game.  Pretty much everything I taught my girls about baseball was straight from Jo.

About five decades ago I was the five or six year old that was learning the game of baseball and so much more.  The neighborhood kids would gather at Dean's field as we called it, next door to the Gott's house.  Now Jo, or as I first knew her, Kathy's Mom, would be there many times.  Three things I remember most about Jo is her baseball cap, her knowledge and love of the game and her wonderful smile.

We learned more than baseball on Dean's field.  We learned how to be good people those summer days.  Jo was almost always the only adult among a mess of kids.  Occasionally we kids would have disagreements among ourselves regarding a call of safe or out, fair or foul and so on.  Sometimes the disagreements would be conducted while wrestling around in the dirt.  Jo would step into these debates at the right time and fairly render a verdict

When Jo called the play, we knew that, was that.  No more debate was required.  We respected Jo.  Besides her great smile, Jo also had the "Mom 
Face" down pretty good so no back talk was needed.  Jo taught us to celebrate a victory, suck up a loss, walk off an injury, and work as a team, all the while having the most fun a kid can have.  My siblings and I have loving parents to be sure.  However during baseball season we had one extra loving guardian, Jo Gott!

We honor good people that pass before us in our memories and our hearts.  We honor great people in our memories, hearts and in our children, by teaching them life lessons that were handed down to us.  Thank you Jo, for being a baseball and life coach.

Hey Guys, sorry I didn't contact you sooner but the truth is words just don't come very easy for me in times like this.  But it's important to me that I tell you how special your Mom was to me.  I know this may sound strange to you but when I think of her an old Beatles song comes to mind.  The song is called “In My Life”.  To me the song talks about memories, life, friends, and loves, how even though these things may come in and out of our lives we never really lose affection for them.  Your Mom, you and your family was such a big part of my life for so many years it will be a part of me forever.  She and I spent countless hours in the yard or at the dining room table talking about anything and everything. She actually taught me a lot about self-respect and life in general.  I literally grew up in those years.  I've often heard people say that if you've touched one person in your life then you've had a meaningful life.  I certainly know that Jo has touched many people's lives but I can assure you that she was a blessing in my life and helped me become the man I am today.

Sending prayers for all the family to be able to keep positive and know you will all meet again in Heaven someday.  God needed Mary Jo now and may that be a blessing to you all. So very sorry she had to leave this early but God has a plan.

Much love to the entire family and friends of this very blessed woman and the wonderful full life she blessed everyone around her with..she will be missed by everyone that knew her or knew any of her family.. Prayers to all of you!!!

There are some beautiful memories in that photo album.  Aunt Phyllis, Mom & Dad Bennett, Larry - wow - don't we wish we could have them all back with us. We will always have the memories though and we know we will see them again some day!!  Prayers and hugs to all of you.
