Patricia W. Goodman, of Beech Grove, passed away into the arms of her Lord at the age of 83 on October 18, 2012, from complications due to pneumonia. She was born on December 29, 1928 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward Snider and Guine Peach Williamson. She was part Choctaw Indian and was proud of her Native American heritage. Patricia grew up in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee High School in 1946 and Muskogee Junior College in 1948. She married Earl Luke Goodman on June 6, 1948 at St. Paul Methodist Church and then the two of them moved to Brooklyn, New York, where they resided until late 1949. They came to Indianapolis in 1950 where both worked for the Duffens Optical Company and they eventually settled in Beech Grove.
Patricia returned to school in 1968 and earned a BS from Indiana Central College in 1972 and an MS in 1973. She was an elementary school teacher in the Franklin Township Schools for over 27 years where she positively touched the lives of her many students and developed longtime friendships with several of her colleagues. She retired from teaching in 1998 at the age of 70. Patricia was a Girl Scout leader in Beech Grove for many years in the 1960’s and ‘70’s and enjoyed camping with the scouts and her family. Her favorite activities were to tend her flowers, go out to eat with friends, and participate in crafts with the ladies at Beech Grove United Methodist Church where she was a member for over 60 years. She was especially fond of her many pets including her dogs, Sally and Chi Chi, and the many cats with whom she shared her life.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Dr. Julie Goodman Dojahn, and her son-in-law, Mr. William Dojahn, of Angleton, Texas. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Earl L. Goodman, and their sons, Steve, Jerry, and Larry Goodman. The family expresses sincere thanks to Mr. David and Mrs. Betty Redman, Mildred Hudson, Wray Ann Crawford, Linda Darr, Cheryl White, Dr. Cynthia Williams, and the many doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital who helped care for her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patricia’s name to the Beech Grove United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held October 23, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Little & Sons Funeral Home, Beech Grove Chapel, where the funeral will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery.
