Richard Cooper Clark

Known for his ability to talk to anyone, laugh loudly and describe any route needed to navigate the greater Indianapolis area, Rick spent the majority of his career in commercial construction working for the family business, Clark Engineering. Following the sale of the business, he pushed out on his own finding sales jobs in multiple industries as far away as Texas and Alabama. But Indianapolis was always where he considered home to be.

A graduate of North Central High School (’67) and Indiana University (‘71) he was a fan of all things Hoosier related. You could always count on him watching the football game in the fall and basketball games during the winter. But if a phone call interrupted or a guest dropped by during either, he would happily take the time to talk and catch up. His greatest joy was conversation, closely followed by family and friends, the game of golf, a good swim in a pool and his motorcycle. His absolute loyalty to his family made him the first person to call if you ever need something. Whether a last-minute dinner date, a ride or a lap to hold a baby, Rick would be there.

He is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Vernon) O’Donnell of Chicago and Melissa (Andrew) Bailey of Louisville, KY; his seven grandchildren; his brother Gary (Sandy) Clark of Indianapolis; and his sister Jan (Dave) Roberson of Pittsboro. He shared 29 years of marriage with his ex-wife, Kathy (Cowan) Clark, and they remained friends until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Patricia Clark; his sister Stacey; and his brother David.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his large presence, infectious laugh, long-winded stories, and loving commitment to his family and friends.

Please join family and friends as Rick is laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, July 8th at 2pm. Meet at 1:45pm at the 38th Street gate to be led to the burial site. A memorial service will begin directly following at 3pm. Please contact a member of the family for details.
