Richard Bernard Matthews Jr.

Richard Bernard Matthews Jr., age 70, of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Richard was born September 14, 1950 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Belma Jean (Hynes) Matthews and Richard Bernard Matthews. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Matthews and Joseph Matthews; niece, Carisa Stout; and nephew, Ryan Matthews. He retired from Ameritech after more than 25 years of service and worked for the Indiana Department of Revenue. He was a former member of St. Simon, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. Richard was known to enjoy shooting pool, playing bridge, checkers, chess, and trivia, baseball and watching his kids and grandchildren play sports, and he loved to play cards with his family. Sunday penny ante Omaha with his mother was a family tradition.

Richard is survived by his sons Richard Matthews, III (Stacy), Jeffrey Matthews (Val), and James Matthews (Jackie); brother, Michael Matthews (Pam); sisters, Karen Feltner (Terry), Sandra (Sandy) Stout, Joyce Griffith (Billie), and Lori Aldred; grandchildren, Morgan Gray, Corey Matthews, Nicole (Nick) Matthews, Alexandra Matthews, Mackenzie Matthews, Kayleb Matthews, Ethan Matthews, Bailey Matthews, Riley Matthews, and Hailey Matthews; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Visitation for Richard will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. His Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Indianapolis.
