

William "Bill" Nelson Rhynes, born on September 11, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 78. A resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a man of remarkable character and integrity.
Bill served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971, demonstrating his commitment to his country. He was a train enthusiast and could often be found working on various projects in his garage. His passion for woodworking included building birdhouses and participating in garage sales, always with an eye for a good find.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Rhynes; his mother, Joyce Rhynes; and his brothers, Colin and John Rhynes.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gail Rhynes, who was fortunate to have him as a devoted partner. He also leaves behind his daughter, Hillari, and his son, Kyle.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Shana, James Jacob, Andra and Wyatt as well as his great grandchildren: Owen, Avery, James Jacob Jr, Zayden, Zoey, and Colton.
Bill was known for his generosity and kindness, never hesitating to help others, whether it was offering the shirt off his back or the money in his pocket. He was an honest and independent man who loved his family deeply, always attending his grandchildren's sports and choir events. Bill's love for his dogs was well known, and he was considered the life of any event, always arriving early and ready to contribute to the occasion.
His family and friends will remember him as a good husband and a provider, whose presence will be sorely missed.
A time for friends and family to gather will be held Monday, October 27, 2025 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm with a memorial service to immediately follow, at Little and Sons Funeral Home Beech Grove: 1301 Main Street, Beech Grove Indiana 46107.
