

82, passed away peacefully March 26, 2012. He was born in Loogootee, IN to the late Louis and Della (Taylor) Strange. William is survived by his loving wife Lillian A. (Petac) Strange of 56 ½ years; children Anne Piserchia, Joseph Strange, William Strange, Jr. and Mary Anthony; 9 grandchildren; brothers John Strange, Batesville; David Strange, Loogootee; and sisters Mary Hatfield, Jasper; and Julia Bomalaski, Jasper. Two brothers preceded him in death; James T. and Robert L. Strange.
He graduated from Loogootee High School in Loogootee, Indiana. He earned an A.B. from Indiana State Teachers College, M.S. from IU-Bloomington, M.A. from Purdue, and the Doctorate at IU-Bloomington.
William served in the US Navy from 1951-1955, including the Korean Theater from 1951-1953. He taught in the high schools at Mitchell, Bedford, and Southport High Schools. In 1968 he joined the Indiana Department of Education and worked there until 1993. At the Department, he attained the rank of Senior Officer for Assessment, including oversight for Indiana’s testing program, ISTEP. In later years he taught educational research and evaluation classes in the graduate schools at Butler U., IU-Bloomington, and IUPUI.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove, where he was chair of the first Parish Council; and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Bible Study.
Visitation will be held at Little & Sons Funeral Home Beech Grove Thursday March 29th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday March 30th at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society www.littleandsonsbeechgrove.com
