Rafael R. Rodriguez
December 26, 1964 – May 28, 2026
Rafael R. Rodriguez, a lifelong resident of Maywood, California, passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on December 26, 1964, to Rafael Ramirez Rodriguez and Cecilia D. Pena, Rafael was a man who lived his life authentically, entirely on his own terms.
A proud graduate of Bell High School, Rafael dedicated 30 years of his career to P95. Known to many as “Rhino,” he was respected for his strong work ethic and unwavering attention to detail. A true perfectionist, Rafael took great pride in his cooking. Those who knew him understood better than to interfere with his carefully arranged setup—a testament to the passion and care he poured into every meal he prepared.
Beyond his work, Rafael was a man of many creative interests. He found joy in music, art, photography, and filmmaking, always searching for new ways to capture the beauty and uniqueness of the world around him. He loved riding his bike and was a dedicated foodie who enjoyed exploring local restaurants and hidden gems in search of new flavors and experiences.
While he was known to be a bit of a grouch at times and famously disliked the fanfare of holidays, his family knew the truth: beneath his tough exterior was a man who cared deeply. With a gentle nudge, he would set his reservations aside and show up for those he loved most.
Rafael cherished his mother, Cecilia D. Pena; his beloved Tía Mom, Virginia Prado; his sisters, Elizabeth Gochez and Sonia Pena-Loch; and his brother, Roberto Rodriguez. His love extended warmly to his uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
Rafael may not have been worldly in the traditional sense, but he lived a life that was intentional, genuine, and uniquely his own. His presence, his quirks, his creativity, and his deep affection for family will be profoundly missed. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in the countless memories, laughter, and moments we were blessed to share with him.
He will be remembered as a man who lived as he chose and loved as he knew how—with all his heart.
