

Amy P. Roland passed away January 2, 2012. Born in Greenville, Mississippi 5/3/35 to Lonnie Mac, Sr and Maude Belle Smith. She was the 7th of 9 children. She grew up on a farm where they were cotton sharecroppers. She worked hard in the cotton fields. She met Raymond Roland at her sister's church. They fell in love and were married. Later she had Cathy, Denise and Michael. They traveled the world living in Tuly, Greenland, Clovis, New Mexico, and Torejon,Spain. Raymond expired unexpectedly when he was only 36. Amy had to immediately go to work. She moved her family to Austin, Tx. She found work in a nursing home as an aide. Later, the family moved to Pasadena, Tx where she found work at Texas Aluminum. After years of service, she found a job working to take care of Betty as her personal caretaker. At 60, Amy was able to retire. Not long after she retired, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Soon after, Amy attended Sheltering Arms Adult Day Care, where she acted as their greeter. She would always announce that she was there. She would then go person to person, saying a kind word, then giving a loving touch to all that were there during the day. While she was at Sheltering Arms, she won the RSVP Volunteer of the Year. She was picked out of 200 applicants. Once she started to need 24 hour care, she moved to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Center. There she continued to bless others by being the voice for those who could not speak anymore. She was a patient advocate for the residents on the Miller Unit. She was Pat Reed's eyes and ears, making sure Pat was aware of everything that was happening on the unit. Amy was loved by all. She dedicated her life to helping others.
Preceded in death by husband Raymond Roland, daughter Cathy Dougherty, mother Maude Belle Box Smith, father Lonnie Mac Smith, Sr. Siblings: Earl Smith, Lonnie Mac Smith, Jr., Mary Catherine Morgan, Mary Elizabeth Cudd, and Granville Smith.
She is survived by: son Michael Roland and daughter in law Marcy Roland, daughter Denise Gamble. Siblings: Louis and Gayle Smith, Jean and Charles Nichols, and Ruth Guest. Grandchildren: Misty Phelps, Michelle Dougherty, Amber McManus, Brandi Dougherty, Brittney King, and Jeremy Gamble. Great Grandchildren: Kayla and Melissa Phelps, Tristan Rodriguez, Bailey Ortiz, Coby McManus, Caleb and Jared Wayne, Audrey, Cameron and Peyton King, and Jayla Gamble.
