Betty Ilene Beck was born on March 18, 1922 to Rudolph and Susan Beck in Nezperce, Idaho. The family moved from Idaho to Schulenburg, Texas, continuing their farming way of life, until eventually settling in Bellaire in 1936.
Once there, at age 14, she met her husband of 69 years Jack Randolph Coble. Too young to date, Jack and Betty would see each other as often as possible, meeting at church every Sunday and Wednesday. When they were a little older, Jack's sister Rita Belle would chaperone their courtship. Jack and Betty especially enjoyed going to the silent movies where they could hold hands behind Rita Belle's back in the dark.
In 1941, after Jack had made a few rejected marriage proposals, he joined the Navy and gave Betty some time to come to realize the error of her ways. It was during this time that Betty accepted a position in Bryan as a job placement interviewer.
Following World War II, four days after Jack was discharged from the Navy, Betty asked him to marry her. They married at Jack's sister's home in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1946 and returned to Bellaire to start their life together. Their union produced five children, Little Mark only surviving ten days. Betty enjoyed staying home with the children, providing a very loving home environment. After the children were grown, Betty briefly worked at Bellaire State Bank. She did not stay there long, choosing instead to be as devoted to her grandchildren as she was to her own children.
Betty loved spending time with Jack and the family at their house on Caney Creek, fishing and crabbing. She will be remembered for her cooking, bowling, sewing, and spunky spirit.
Betty is survived by her husband, Jack Coble; her children, Peggy Donnell; Pat Wright (Leo Villarreal); George Coble (Theresa Eilers); and Boyd Coble (Bobby Owen); seven grandchildren, Eric Wright (Cassandra); Tricia Donnell (Jack Vaughan); Kim Wright (Chris); Tammy Donnell (Jay Manjack); Elizabeth Coble (Danny Worrall); Sarah Coble (Mason Colgin); Jack Coble; and five great grandchildren, Joseph Edward Manjack, IV; Angela Sue Manjack; Kinley Wright; Caden Wright; and Paige Vaughan.
