Born on July 13, 1939, in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland, Bridget was the beloved daughter of William and Nora (née Delea) Naughton. She was the 13th of 15 children.
Bridget received her education from St. Joseph’s Girls Secondary School in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland. Also, she attended The Salesian Convent Secondary School in Limerick City, County Limerick, Ireland.
After completing her secondary education, Bridget immigrated to England for a short period of time and, finally, to the United States, due to the generosity of her sister, Catherine “Kitty” Moquin. Bridget went to work in New York City for the Texaco Oil Company (now Chevron) for many years. Throughout her career, she relocated multiple times, eventually settling in Houston, Texas. Those work experiences were shared with her niece, Kathleen Moquin. Bridget was the consummate employee, recognized by those who worked with her. When Bridget retired, she returned home to Ireland to assist with the caregiving of her mother until she passed. Ultimately, Bridget returned to Houston, Texas.
Bridget’s devout Roman Catholic faith was always at the forefront of her life. She was a lector at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was very involved in her parish community. It was there she met and befriended Sister Virginia O’Donnell and Sister Carmel O’Malley, Order of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, with whom she shared a love for their homeland, Ireland. Bridget was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.
Bridget’s philanthropic actions were a testament to her character. There was not a person nor charitable organization that she did not support.
“Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a hanam” — May God have mercy on her soul.
Bridget is survived by two brothers, Joseph Naughton (Breda), Corbally, County Limerick, Ireland; and Seamas Naughton (Marta), Middletown, New York; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the United States, Ireland, England, and Australia.
Bridget was predeceased by her parents, William and Nora Naughton; her brothers, Padraig, Cornelius, Thomas, William, and Sean; and her sisters, Catherine Moquin, Mary Naughton, Teresa Varilone, Eileen Naughton, Norah Hickey, Bernadette Blake, and Mary O’Donnell.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Bridget’s primary care physician, Elizabeth Boehme, M.D., for the wonderful medical care that she provided over the years; to caregivers Floydetta “Flo” Harbin and her staff, Debra, Tiffany, and others, who not only assisted with Bridget’s daily needs but also were compassionate, kind, patient, and understanding; and to Martha Valentino and Susan Cichon, Bridget’s dear, long-time friends, who assisted in every way possible, especially after the passing of Bridget’s niece, Kathleen Moquin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Bridget will be buried at a later date, alongside her parents, in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland.
