David Karl Lafferty

David Karl Lafferty, beloved son, brother, husband, and father, passed away on July 1, 2015. He was born on September 8, 1956 in Brockport, New York to Margaretha and Norman Lafferty. Dave moved to Houston in 1977 and was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service-Bellaire office for 36½ years before recently retiring. He served his community as an umpire and volunteer coach at Westbury Little League. Dave actively supported his family in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, sporting events, school functions, and church activities. Dave was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where he lived out his faith quietly but fervently. He was always ready to help friends in any way he could and was handy in fixing things and working on cars. Dave’s greatest joy was watching his children play sports and participate in extracurricular activities. Dave also enjoyed following the Houston sports teams along with the college teams of his children, Texas A&M University and Vanderbilt University, and the high school teams of his children, Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes. He relished the occasional opportunity to golf with his children and extended family. Crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles and reading the newspaper were daily routines. Dave’s children were his ultimate pride and joy. He will be missed dearly by neighbors, co-workers, postal patrons, friends and family.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Norman Lafferty. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marla, his son, Kevin, daughter, Claire, his mother, Margaretha, and brothers, Charles and Steven Lafferty.

Memorial services will be held at Earthman Bellaire on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
