He returned home to teach history in public schools and then worked for M.D. Anderson Hospital in the General Accounting department. He worked there for over 40 years until his retirement. He worked evenings as a manager for local theatres and performance halls, which gave him great joy.

Edward and Leonor were active members of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish and School. He volunteered in various church ministries and served as lector, mentor to parish youth, and catechist. He was an active volunteer for the neighborhood association, taught citizenship classes, and advocated for and helped people in many ways. He loved spending time with family and friends, listening to music, telling stories, and dancing with his wife.
Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Leonor Castillo; daughters Leonor (Albert) Cheng and Ivette Castillo (Matthew McCabe); son Eric (Jennifer) Castillo; grandchildren Alexander and Eva Cheng, William and Jacob Castillo, and Liliana and Donovan McCabe; sisters Marie Perkins and Margaret Ramirez; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
