Elvira Neira was born November 2, 1926 in Ecuador where she enjoyed her younger years with several brothers and sisters, attended school and met her husband. Her grace and education paved the way for her employment with an international company based in Ecuador. She took pride in her work as the trusted executive assistant to the president, the “trusted gatekeeper” as she referred to her role. In late 2010 , she relocated to the United States and settled in the Houston, Texas area where she worked for Ben Taub hospital until the day of her retirement.
Elvira enjoyed traveling and appeared to have traveled extensively abroad. Having lived through periods of political unrest in her native country, she valued being an active citizen of the United States as well as staying fully engaged with geopolitical world events even at the age of 99! Her spiritual and faith formation developed at a young age, and she remained steadfast in her belief and trust in God’s plan for her. She attended mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she met her “new family” .
In the recent months, Elvira attended mass at the chapel at St. Dominic Village where she made new friends and found her new home. Friends of Elvira say she was “kind and full of light”.
Thank you for touching all of our hearts with your smile and with your love. “Welcome home, Elvira!”
