He was the son of the late Sara and Harold Lees of Houston, Texas.
Gary was a 1961 graduate of San Jacinto High School. He attended Tulane University, The University of Houston and The University of Michigan where he received a Masters Degree in Medical and Biological Illustration. He worked for fifty years at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he attained the title of Professor Emeritus. He retired in 2020 after serving 33 years as Chairman and Director of the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine. Gary also served as President and Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Medical Illustrators. He achieved numerous awards during his career.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel Memorial Park. Gary is survived by his wife, Tina, of Boynton Beach, FL and his son, Ryan, of Baltimore, MD. Contributions in Gary's Memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association. www.alz.org.
