Eidson – Jack Carroll, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the age of 67. He was born on October 27, 1942 in Brownwood, TX to Melvin and Ernestine Eidson. Jack spent his formative youth in Austin, TX where his mother eventually remarried to Edgar Kendrick Browning.
Graduating from McCallum High School in Austin, he accepted a nomination to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO by then Senator Lyndon Baines Johnson. Upon completion of his military service, Jack went on to Athens College in Georgia, where he achieved a degree in Mathematics and Astrophysics. Working with Northrop Space Labs, he participated in the Saturn rocket and Apollo Lunar programs, later transferring to McDonnell Douglas in a consulting capacity.
Soon after, Jack worked in positions with Bechtel and Williams Brothers Engineering with responsibilities widely covering the energy sector, most notably in regards to the construction of the Alaska Pipeline Project. While working with Williams Brothers, Jack met and married his wife Denise on January 27, 1979. He then embarked on a business owner and consultant capacity, working in a variety of business sectors helping to improve cost accounting and business operational structures for NASA and Alaska, among others.
Jack is survived by his wife of 31 years, Denise Eidson, his son, Andrew and Morgan Eidson, sisters and brothers-in-law Diane and Tom Voth and their children John and Vanessa, Julie and John Linhardt and their daughter Amanda. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ernestine and Edgar Browning, his father, Melvin Eidson, his aunt Laura Baker, his mother and father-in-law Mary and John Long, and his daughter, Christine Eidson.
The Eidson family would like to recognize the staff and management of Methodist Hospital at the Texas Medical Center. Their tireless effort in improving, preserving and caring for Jack’s health with uncompromising professionalism is a standard that proves the accolades that institution earns year after year.
However, the family must specifically recognize the stellar efforts of Dr. George Delclos. If the Hippocratic Oath has an embodiment, then Dr. Delclos has surpassed it. His compassion, love and relentless efforts throughout Jack’s health issues provided the family with a care beyond exception, and a shoulder for their tears. From the bottom of the family’s heart…thank you George.
Jack will be missed by too many to count. His humor and powerful intellect will live on far beyond his infectious laugh and scribbled diagrams on the back of paper bags. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Foundation For Sarcoidosis Research at www.stopsarcoidosis.org or at his daughter Christine’s interest at Safe Place in Colorado Springs at www.safeplacepets.org, an entity that provides homes for pets of the terminally ill.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Levy Funeral Home 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire, TX. 713-660-6855. Additional information may be found at www.levyfuneraldirectors.com.
