He worked 28 years in the oil industry and retired in 2000 to a life of travel, golf, square, and round dancing with Janet
Jess met Janet Owens Gravelle in the fifth grade, telling his mother that “he was going to marry that girl one day”, which he did on January 29, 1955. God blessed them with three daughters, Kathryn Sue Gravelle Hunt, Joycelyn Kay Gravelle Lawson, and Kristine Elizabeth Gravelle Copeland.
Jess and Janet loved spoiling their five grandchildren, Kayla Kristine Hunt Knight, Jess Michael Lawson, David Travis Lawson, Cody Ryan Hunt, and Benjamin Travis Copeland and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, twin brother Lemuel Austin Gravelle, sister Eloise Gravelle Richard, and great-grandson Kooper James Knight.
He will be remembered for being the perfect example of a Godly husband, father, and grandfather. His commitment to his faith in Christ showed the way to live a life rich in God’s blessings. And lest we forget…….he always had a smile on his face while telling a Cajun joke about Saustin, Boundreaux, and Thibodeaux.
He will be missed by many.
