Joel Sanford Bittensky passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Joel was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. Always a brilliant student, he graduated from Rice University with a Master’s Degree in petroleum engineering and went to work for Texaco, Inc. Here, Joel’s successful career was highlighted by being awarded two patents for inventions involved with improvements in petroleum refining.
Joel’s passion for the financial markets drew him away from his engineering career, and he transitioned into the financial services industry. He joined the Private Banking & Investment Group at Merrill Lynch and then spent many years as an investment advisor and broker at UBS Financial Services. Here, he earned the respect of a large client base. Even after his retirement, Joel continued to have a group of loyal followers who depended on his daily email blog for his astute investment insights.
Beyond his professional life, Joel loved all sports and was an avid tennis player. He kept up an association with numerous collegiate and professional tennis players. Joel’s love of music and singing led him to a number of performances at a local restaurant where his “groupies” followed him, on one occasion wearing matching shirts with his photo on the front.
Those who knew Joel were most in awe of his devotion to his family. He had an unwavering commitment to his parents and his sister, and he spent many years taking care of them.
Joel was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ruth and Walter Bittensky, and his beloved sister, Zella Bittensky. He is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
