He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret “Marge” Biondi; his parents, John Louis and Philomena Biondi; and his brother, Raymond.
Born on April 10, 1932, in Endicott, New York, John spent his early childhood there before his family moved to Herlong, California during World War II. It was in Herlong that he grew up and later chose to serve his country, joining the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served honorably as a radar technician on two separate ships during the conflict. Following his military service, John spent two years in the Jordan seminary with the Salvatorian Brothers Society of the Divine Savior in Menomonee, Michigan. After discerning that religious life was not his vocation, he began working as an Army recruiter. It was during this time, in Toledo, Ohio in 1959, that he met the love of his life, Margaret Elaine Brickley of Detroit.
John and Marge were married in August 1960 and soon began building the family that would become the heart of their life together.
A career transfer brought the family to Houston in February 1972, where all six children attended St. Thomas More Catholic School as well as Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, St. Agnes Academy, and Marian Christian High School.
He distinguished himself by working for the Federal Government as an honest and ethical public servant. John’s career included time with the Internal Revenue Service and the Secret Service. He retired from the Civil Service as the Director of Personnel for Region VI of the US Bureau of Customs.
A man of steadfast faith, John remained deeply rooted in his Catholic tradition. He and Marge were active parishioners at St. Thomas More for more than five decades, serving in numerous ministries. John joyfully sang with the Men’s Choir and the Sounds of Faith music groups for 53 years. His devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was profound, and he held a lifelong gratitude for Blessed Solanus Casey, OFM, whom the family credited with the miraculous healing of Margaret when she was an infant.
John is survived by his six children, son Joe and wife Carol, son David and wife Liz, daughter Ann Patrick and husband Mike, son Jim and wife Michele, daughter Judy Gentempo and husband Tom, and daughter Susan Farrell and husband Brendan. "Papa" is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews across the country.
John dedicated many years as a volunteer at MD Anderson Cancer Center and contributed his voice and talent to Taping for the Blind. He also appeared in numerous Houston-area stage productions, radio commercials, industrial films, and television ads. A natural performer, John, could often be found enthusiastically joining the band at weddings—invited or not. Wherever he went, he brought music, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, December 1, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft Ave. A rosary will begin at 10:30 am and the funeral mass celebrating John's life will begin at 11:00 am. A reception will follow. A private family burial will be held at Houston National Cemetery, sharing a gravesite with his beloved Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, The Salvatorian Brothers Society of the Divine Savior, or the Solanus Casey Center.
