Libby was born in Houston on April 27, 1925, to parents Ruben and Katie Caplan. Libby lost her father at the age of 9. Her mother Katie took the mantle and successfully raised her four children during the difficult times of the depression. This was a guiding experience for Libby as later in life she too would have to survive as a young widowed mother.
After graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1942, Libby worked at the Sakowitz department store. She soon met the love of her life, Harry Feingersh, who swept Libby off of her feet. After his service in the military they were married in 1947. They welcomed their first son Randy in 1950 and their second son Larry in 1953. After a brief illness Harry passed away in 1957. Soon after, Libby went to work for the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas as their Texas-area marketing director. She was then hired by Caesar's Palace where she spent 25 years earning her reputation as the go-to person for premiere travel to Las Vegas.
In 1967 Libby met Harold Weisenthal, of "Harold's in the Heights" fame, and they quickly became constant companions. They traveled and attended events side by side for over 44 years until Harold's passing in May 2012.
Libby was an avid golfer and competed in Women's Golf Charities. She was a member of Muni and the Gus Wortham group. Through-out her playing days she was known by the nickname “perfect”. She also loved playing the game of Mah Johng with her friends every week. Libby was a beauty, and was known for her keen wit-- she kept everyone in stitches until the end.
Libby is survived by her two sons, Randy and Larry, her daughter-in-law Martha, and grandchildren Harry and Katie. She is also survived by her much beloved niece Abbe Garfinkel, nephews Steven Garfinkel, Ricky Garfinkel, Barry Brier, Michael Brier, Bobby Brier, Michael Caplan, Kenneth Caplan, and her sister-in-law Carole Caplan. Libby is also survived by longtime friend Margaret Carson and her double-cousin Shirley Bell. Libby was predeceased by her brother Melvin Caplan and sisters Ida Garfinkel and Ann Brier.
The family would like to sincerely thank Nola Broussard for her devotion to Libby. They were close, dear friends for over 40 years. The family also would like to extend their gratitude to Prisca Ngo-Nkot for her loving care during this past year. She brought a joyous peace to her caregiving and loved Libby as much as Libby loved her. The family would like to especially acknowledge and thank Sherhondia Green for making Libby's life more interesting, entertaining, and comfortable during her final six months. She held a respectable command over those connected to Libby, while never forgetting that Libby was the boss until the end.
The Feingersh family would like to acknowledge the special care Libby received by the nursing staff of The Hampton's third floor, notably Osie Williams, Leroyda Keamey, and Mary Gibson.
