Marie Edith Suchomel Sullivan, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Marie was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on September 7, 1921. A graduate of Marquette University with a B.S. in Nursing, Marie served in the Armed Forces as an army nurse from 1945 to 1955, retiring as a Captain. She returned to nursing in 1966. In 1971 Marie joined M.D. Anderson Hospital and was head of the nursing section of the Hematology Department. Many patients will remember her loving care of them. She retired from M.D. Anderson in 1991, but continued to serve the hospital as a volunteer. Marie was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed college football and Packer football. Her greatest joy was watching her grandsons in their endeavors.
Marie is survived by her children Jane (Charles Halley), Anne (Thomas Nuckols), Pete and John, grandsons John, Joseph and Jake Nuckols and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Snowdrop Foundation, benefiting Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
