

Bernice, as she was known to family and friends, went to school in Austonio and graduated from high school when she was only sixteen years old. She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1951 and a Master of Arts degree in Education in 1953. Between her degrees, she taught one year in Austonio. Following her studies, Bernice began teaching at Galena Park High School.
While in graduate school, she met her future husband Donald Morgan. They were married April 17, 1954 in her parents' home in Austonio. She taught at Galena Park High School until Donald was drafted into the Army. They lived at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for two years, then moved to Houston, Texas. Bernice taught in the Houston schools for the next six years.
Bernice was a devout Christian. She and Don have been members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church Houston since 1957. In addition to family and church, Bernice was an active docent at various museums in Houston including the Health Museum and the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. In this later role she developed a love for fine china and tableware.
She is survived by her devoted husband Donald and her three children: Susan Morgan, Donald Morgan, Jr. and his wife Betsy, John Morgan and his wife Amy; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 26, 2018 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St.
Her life will be celebrated at her funeral on Saturday the 29th of September at 11 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 3816 Bellaire Boulevard in Houston, Texas. The interment will be at Creek Cemetery in Austonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Houston or a charity of your choice.
