Mildred M. Kerr

Mildred Mary Marques Kerr, age 93, life-long resident of Houston, entered into rest on Monday, August 18, 2014. Born Christmas Day, 1920, she graduated from Milby High School (Class of 1939). She spent the next 35 years working for health care professionals as a receptionist, secretary, bookkeeper, and assistant. A founding member of the Harris County Medical Assistants, she served as President in 1969. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Community where she volunteered in the Business Office, served on the Bereavement Committee, was an RCIA sponsor, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Mildred (aka: Prissy, Millie, Skinny, Nannan, Aunt Granny) didn’t have children of her own, but she embraced the children and grandchildren of her siblings as if they were hers. She was a loving, giving woman who will be missed by her family and friends. Her “special” peanut-butter-cup cookies were always a hit at family gatherings – no leftovers!

She is predeceased by her husband and long-time friend, C. Denton Kerr, MD; parents, Preston and Fedora Louvier Marques; siblings, Luella V. Landers, Libby M. Ortego, John P. “Jack” Marques; Helen E. Walter, Elsie M. Lang, Anna L. Canant, Lola M. Lund, and Preston “Pete” Marques, Jr. She is survived by her godchildren, Joyce Ann Canant-Smith, Summerville, SC; Joseph H. “Joe” Lang, Jr., Franklinton, LA; Sharon M. Haynes (Robert J “Bob”), Houston, TX; Barry P. Walter (Joyce M.), Sugar Land, TX; Johnnie Ray Marques (Debbie L), Ellington, TX; and Michael R. Thrash (Sheridan B.), Kingwood, TX. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many loving friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with Rosary beginning at 5:00 pm, Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 25, 2014, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link, Houston, TX 77025, with Rev. Robert Chabot, Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
