Patricia Jane Flaherty McNerney, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2015 after a short illness. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Patrick Flaherty and his wife Delia Gallagher Flaherty, both of whom were from Ireland and her siblings Ellen, Billy, John and Bernard.
She is survived by her beloved husband Richard P. McNerney, her son Timothy McNerney and his wife Erin and granddaughter Ellie; daughter Bridget McNerney; her elder sister Mary, and a very large extended family.
Patricia was born and raised in Lowell, MA. She graduated high school from Keith Hall and received her nursing degree from Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in Dorchester, MA. Her interest in exploring the world led her to a career in the Air Force. She received a degree from the School of Aerospace Medicine in 1965 as a flight nurse and served during the Vietnam War in the Philippines. She was recognized for her many accomplishments during her time of active duty and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. She left the Air Force with the rank of Captain.
Patricia called Houston home since 1970 where she raised a family and lived the rest of her life. She is a cherished member of the larger McNerney family. She never met a child/ a niece/a nephew, grand niece/nephew/ grandchild, great-grand nephew or niece that she didn’t love. Her legacy of unconditional love is a model for us all to live up to.
To many she was Patricia, Teasie, PJ, Aunt Pat, Nano, Mom, and Mimi. To all she was a friend who will be deeply missed. She never made a long story short and no one was a stranger for long. She was a good person with a great heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and an ability to light up a room.
