

Richard Charles Nevle passed away July 17th, 2011. He was born on December 12th, 1941, to Olivia Otto Nevle and Lawrence Nevle in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Blessed Sacrament Parish, graduated from St. Thomas High School and then the University of St. Thomas, where he earned a B.A. in history in 1964, and later a M.A. in educational administration. Richard worked for the Prudential Insurance Company, then at his alma mater, St. Thomas High School, where he found his vocation in teaching. In 1967 Richard joined Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, where he coached debate, taught history, theology, economics, and Native American cultures. He served as the school’s social studies department chair, director of community service, assistant principal, and finally, for the past 20 years, as its principal. For many years Richard wrote an editorial column for the Texas Catholic Herald.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Louise Nevle, along with their three sons, Richard, Charles, and Eric; daughters-in-law, Deborah and Yim-Mie; and grandchildren, Kara, Alex, Matthew, and Sophia. Richard was deeply committed to his family, his faith, Catholic education, and the Strake Jesuit community.
Richard’s body will be received at 12 noon on Thursday, July 21, 2011, in the Lahart Chapel of St. Ignatius, with a rosary service following at 7:00 P.M., in the Parsley Center, both of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory at 8900 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, Texas 77036. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 22, 2011, in the Parsley Center.
