Ruben M. Rosales

Ruben Martinez Rosales, 82, of Houston passed into eternal rest on January 28, 2011. Born on March 18, 1928 in Rosenberg, Texas to Reynaldo and Elena (Martinez) Rosales, Ruben was raised in San Antonio along with his brothers Rudy & Ramiro and his sisters Rosie Bejar & Rachel Herrera. In 1946 Ruben joined the United States Army and proudly served in the occupying Army of Japan in the days following World War II. On May 1, 1949 Ruben married his loving wife of 61 years, Susie (Gallardo), and they began their journey together through life. Joined along the way by daughters Rossi Lepow, Ruth Evans, Jo-ann Rosales, Susan Perez, Dolores Moseley-Hassan, Patricia Rosales & Mary Ellen Leos and son, Ruben Ross Rosales, the family relocated to Bellaire, Texas in 1965.

Ruben took great pride in his children and often helped them complete school projects, which some would say looked a little too perfect, so it came as no surprise to anyone that he tackled the role of grandfather with equal love and attention to detail. Known to his eight grandchildren (Tyson Moseley, Ryan Leos, Jessica Moseley, Krystal Leos, Briana (Perez) Moseley, Samantha Leos, Nicolas Evans, and Amber Perez) and great-grandson (Peyton [Perez] Moseley) as ‘Welo’ he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, tell a joke, or offer a lesson in his workshop.

Ruben was a Master Carpenter, and worked diligently to hone his skills. He was known to be an uncompromising perfectionist when it came to his various jobs and projects, and it was not uncommon for him to nudge his helpers aside so he could show them the “right way” to do things. Though he always took work seriously it was clear to all those around him that he truly loved what he did.

Preceded in death by his father, mother, and older brother, Rudy, Ruben leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work that will stand the test of time.
