

Sr. Barbara Ann Collins, O.P. (Thomas Marie) entered eternal life on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Sr. Barbara Ann was born in Port Neches, TX, October 13, 1937, to the late Robert and Mamie Abshire Collins. She was preceded in death by her brother Garland “Butch” Collins and niece Julie Collins. She is survived by nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Following graduation from St. Anthony High School in Beaumont, TX, in 1956, Sr. Barbara Ann entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston. She earned a B.A. in Education at Dominican College. She completed extensive studies in Theology at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, Our Lady of the Lake and Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.
Sr. Barbara Ann served in education ministry at Christ the King School, Houston; Sacred Heart School, Galveston, TX; St. Joseph School, Port Arthur, TX; St. Mary School, Whittier, CA; St. Jerome School, Houston; St. Francis De Sales School, Houston; St. Catherine School, Port Arthur, TX; St. Augustine School, Houston; and St. Anne Tri-Parish School, Beaumont, TX. She was the secondary Coordinator of Odyssey Academy, Galveston, and she served the immigrant poor as Co-Director of Christus Literacy Center, Galveston, TX.
Sr. Barbara Ann had an ability to make people feel welcome and accepted. She was optimistic and active despite declining mental health. She was beloved for her spirit, her generous heart, and her boundless energy. Her students remark that “she made history fun” and every time they hear her theme song “Barbara Ann”, they think of her.
Sister’s body will be welcomed at 4 p.m. and the vigil service will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026 at St. Dominic Villa Chapel, 6504 Almeda Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Daniel Warden on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Villa Chapel. Burial is at Forest Park, Lawndale at 1 p.m. In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of Houston, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX, 77021.
