

Sr. Sheila Anne O’Beirne, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, died on February 18, 2015 at St. Placidus Convent. Sr. Sheila was born in 1935 to the late Michael and Mary Catherine McDonagh O’Beirne in Sligo, Co. Sligo, Ireland. She entered the Congregation on September 24, 1954 at St. Michael, Co. Clare, Ireland. On August 15, 1962, Sr. Sheila consecrated her life to God by perpetual profession of vows at Villa de Matel, Houston.
Sr. Sheila ministered first through the education of children as a teacher at St. Frances Cabrini School in Alexandria, LA, James Collins Catholic School in Corsicana, TX, St. Francis of Assisi School in Houston, and to our young Sisters at St. Michael’s in Carrigoran, Ireland. Gifted in mathematics Sister kept the convent accounts and ministered in the business, accounting/personnel, or treasurer offices at St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA, St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK, and Villa de Matel, Houston. Sr. Sheila also gave of herself in the Chaplaincy programs in St. Patrick’s and St. Francis Hospitals. In her later years she taught in the literacy programs in Houston at Southwest Clinic and St. Austin’s Center. Sr. Sheila freely gave of herself and of her many talents to those in need. May Sr. Sheila experience God’s Presence for all eternity.
Sr. Sheila is survived by one sister, Joan O’Beirne, two brothers, Paddy O’Beirne and Michael O’Beirne all of Ireland; and a cousin Carmel Baker of Pasadena, TX. We extend a special thanks to those who cared for Sister at St. Placidus.
Sister’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St, Houston, TX at 5:00 pm on Friday Feb. 20, 2015 followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015. Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery.
