Veronica spent her childhood in Schenectady, NY, and after her marriage to Burt, they started their lives together in Albuquerque, New Mexico where they lived for two years before moving on to Kennewick, Washington. After a number of years in Kennewick, they returned to upstate New York to be closer to their families and settled in the town of Victor. Ronnie began working as an intermediate school librarian and developed a real love of children’s books. After Burt’s passing, she remained in Victor until her grandchildren were born in Houston and she relocated to be a bigger part of their lives. She played the role of proud grandmother as Michael and Allison were always her pride and joy.
She was very active after retirement, playing in multiple bridge groups, volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, and traveling. Ronnie was extremely talented and crafty. She knitted, crocheted, embroidered, and sewed. Many friends and family members were gifted beautiful quilts she spent many hours working on. Ronnie loved spending time with her many friends, fellow bridge players and quilters. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Victoria Slowakiewicz Smith, brother Thomas Smith and husband Burton Ferris.
She is survived by son Mark Ferris and wife Cindy, daughter Ann Laws and husband Robert, two grandchildren Michael Laws and Allison (Laws) Borders and her husband Joshua, one brother Arthur Smith and wife Jacqueline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 21st in Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. after which a Memorial Service will be held. Her final resting place will be with her beloved Burt in Victor, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Seasons Hospice (Houston), Catholic Charities or the charity of your choosing.
