Victor was the quintessential big kid in a man's body. Beloved by his five nieces and nephews, Victor was always game for hours of cards or shepherding the flock of children to their first Comic Con and most recently Arcade Con. The loss of such a fun being is doubly hard because Victor is preceded in death by his older sister, Jessie, who passed away almost exactly a year before. Victor is survived by his parents, Paulinus and Grace Shieh, older sister Pattie and younger brother Chris. Victor was surrounded by a large, loving extended family including his brothers in law, John Lance and Jai Panicker.
After graduating from Clear Lake High School, Victor attended college and most recently worked as a contractor for IBM. He stoically endured dialysis treatments but continued to live his life the way he wanted. He loved sports, comics, candy, going to dim sum and hanging out with the family. His gruff, deep voice would send sarcastic barbs from on high for he was indeed so much taller than most of us.
We are grateful that for a computer geek, much of his equipment will be donated for children to work on. He would have liked that. Victor's life was not an easy one but he never turned bitter or angry. He deserved so much more than life gave him. We are so grateful for the time we had with him. Our enduring thanks to all of our friends who once again enveloped us in their warm embrace. Full of support, they have lessened the horrible pain.
It doesn't seem like the ill winds of fate should strike us so cruelly again, but we soldier on. It is hard to explain to the nieces and nephews why this would happen. But to Raena Panicker, Aleah Lance, Reese Lance, Maia Lance and Ronan Panicker, remember his loud laugh and big smile. Victor would be mortified that we are so broken and lost. He would not want us to grieve. But, grieve we do. We hope Victor has found the arcade in heaven and is schooling everyone. We love you and will miss you always.
