William Henry Plant, 73, passed away on March 26, 2018. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica on December 2, 1944 to Owen and Gloria Plant. William moved to the United States in 1961 to complete his business degree at Marquette University. He returned to Jamaica where, in 1970, he married the love of his life, Patricia Jean Plant, who preceded him in death. William and Patricia moved to Houston, Texas in 1977 where they lovingly raised their three children Rachael (Warren von Eschenbach), William Jr (Colleen) and Kevin (Mione). William is survived by his sister, Margaret Wiemer, brother, Owen (Darlene) Plant, his brother in law Dorian (Kathy) Benn, sisters in law Sheila (Chris) Davies, Penny (Allen) Fletcher and his mother in law Sue Benn.
William was an accomplished sailor and a member of the Jamaican Olympic team, competing in the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico City. He shared this passion with his wife and their children. On most weekends you could find him at the Houston Yacht Club enjoying a day of sailing on his boat, Picante, and spending time with his many close friends. He was a successful businessman, founding Building Products Plus with his wife Patricia and brother in law Dorian. William was a true professional and was a remarkable leader showing generosity, compassion and grace in all endeavors.
William’s greatest treasures were his grandchildren, Ashley, Chiara, Connor, Ilaria, Townes and Ness. He adored his grandchildren and leaves them with many wonderful memories and hearts full of love.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 2 at 9:30am at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy., Houston. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of William Plant to the Missionaries Of The Poor at https://missionariesofthepoor.org/donate-now/.
