

Yvonne Mary Barkate was born in Sulphur, Louisiana on December 22, 1925, one of seven children born to Antoine and Victoria Nijmi Barkate. She moved to Houston as a young adult where she enjoyed a life-long career at Gulf Oil in Human Resources. Yvonne will be remembered for her beautiful voice often admired when she sang for weddings at church services. She was a talented amateur artist and loved to play golf.
Yvonne’s servant’s heart touched the lives of countless Houstonians as she volunteered for the Houston Opera Guild and the Catholic Charity Guild, where she was honored as an Emeritus Member with over 30 years of service.
Yvonne will be deeply missed by her many friends and family who she loved unconditionally. She is predeceased by her siblings and spouses, Angele and Dan Montz, Gabriel and Joy Barkate, Jimmy and Stella Barkate, John and Vicki Barkate, Ernest Barkate and Joseph Bakate. She is survived by Joe’s spouse, her sister-in-law, Hilda Barkate, as well as 15 nieces and nephews who reside in Colorado, California, Texas, Missouri, Maryland and Louisiana. Yvonne was especially devoted to her niece’s family who lived in Houston, Vicki and John Brentin and three nephews Steven, Jack and Ben.
A devout Catholic who was a Eucharistic Minister and attended daily mass, A Memorial Mass will be 2:30 in the afternoon, Friday, December 9, 2022, in the Chapel of St. Vincent De Paul, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, 77025.
