

Frederick Downes Streicher, 73, of Glastonbury, CT., died February 13th, at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Philadelphia, PA. on Oct. 17, 1937 to Frederick and Virginia Downes Streicher. He was the beloved husband of Myrna Joyce Ganmann Streicher to whom he was married to on June 17, 1961. Fred graduated from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in June 1959 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. In June 1969 he received a master degree from Rennselaer Graduate Center. Upon graduation from college in 1959 Fred received a commission as an officer in the U.S. Army. He spent 2 years of active duty from July 1959 to July 1961 in St. Louis, MO, with the U.S. Army Transportation Material Command. After his active duty service, Fred spent 6 years in the Army Reserve and was discharged as a Captain in 1969. Fred worked for Pratt & Aircraft Division of United Technologies for 39 years until Retirement in 1999. Fred volunteered as a Glastonbury Little League Coach and a Hartwell Club soccer coach for 8 years and also voluntered in leadership positions in the Glastonbury Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for several years. He enjoyed traveling (spending a week or more vacationing in all 50 states and many foreign countries), gardening, coin collecting, model railroading and fisshinig in Maine. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford, CT. Besides his beloved wife, Fred is survived by their sons John Streicher and his wife Sherri (Schnitz) and their sons Jevon and Corbin of Beaverton, OR., and James Streicher, M.D. and his wife Linda (Goodman) and their daughters Sidney and Wesley of Mendham, NJ. He is also survivied by a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Donna Kagy and their sons Richard and Ronald of Granite City, IL, cousins Nancy Meane and Mary Ritter and nieces Stacey Stilby and Stephanie Lopez. Fred was predeceased by his parents and his sister Suzanne Follett. Burial will be private at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois, with service at the gravesite. Memorial donations may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
