

Hazel was born on November 8, 1916, in Mascoutah, IL. She was married for 59 years to the love of her life, Erwin Scheibel. Throughout her life, Hazel was a long-time member of St. Teresa Church in Belleville, IL. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was admired for her crocheting skills.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Erwin; her parents Walter P. and Elenora C., nee Jung, Weil; brothers Paul and Leo W. Weil; grandson Kurt J. Bessen; and sons-in-law Paul A. Sullivan and Norman D. Bessen.
Hazel was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sorely missed by her beloved children, Jeanette (Norman) Bessen of Lemay, MO; Ruth Ann (Paul) Sullivan of Belleville, IL; Russel E. (Mona) Scheibel of Millstadt, IL; and Rick E. (Linda) Scheibel of Mascoutah, IL., sister Ruth (Vince) Vassallo of Springfield, IL., nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was very proud of her grandchildren, Elaine Bessen; Diana (Tom) Butler; Mark (Tammy) Bessen; Dr. David (Sandra) Sullivan; Katherine (David) Mayr; Sharon (Cameron) Carey; Ann (Gary) LaBlance; Sara (Sam) Scheibel; and Edward (Kim) Scheibel, as well as her great-grandchildren Patrick and Ben Butler, Mitchell and Halle Sullivan, Riley and Ian Mayr, Cassidy and Kailyn Carey, Clare and Grace LaBlance, Stiliyan Teodosiev, and Isabella, Amia and Abram Scheibel.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea and for the support and friendship given to Hazel by her Rosewood roommate of several years, Mary Harper.
Memorial may be made in Hazel’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Greater Missouri and Southern Illinois Chapter (50 Crestwood Executive Center #401, St. Louis, MO 63126)
Visitation: Friends may call from 10-12 on Tuesday, July 5th at St. Teresea Catholic Church, 1201 Lebanon Ave, Belleville, IL.
Services: Celebration of the mass will be at noon on Tuesday, July 5th at St. Teresea Catholic Church with Fr. Gene Neff officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.
