

Freeburg, Illinois — Jozie Lee Kraemer, age 9, born February 24, 2017 in Shiloh, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, surrounded by the endless love of her family. After a courageous battle with brain cancer, Jozie is now at rest, leaving behind a legacy of bravery that has transformed her community.
Jozie was a girl full of joy and grit with a vibrant personality. She didn’t just live life, she embraced every moment with a fierce spirit and a heart far bigger than words can capture. Her kindness, compassion, and genuine love for others defined who she was. Jozie was always authentically herself, shining brightly and encouraging others to do the same.
She found happiness in so many things, cheering with all her energy, enjoying pampering skincare routines, and getting lost in the creative, messy fun of making slime. She loved music, especially Taylor Swift, whose songs were part of the soundtrack of her life. Jozie also cherished time with her friends, laughing, connecting, and creating memories that will live on in our hearts.
Above all else, Jozie’s world revolved around her family. The bond they shared was filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. She is survived by her devoted parents, Doug and Terri Kraemer, her loving brothers, Wyatt and Rhett, and her faithful companions, her beloved dog, Rozie and turtle, Hope.
She is also survived by her loving grandparents, Michael and Diane Kraemer and Brad and Lena Hartsock; aunts and uncles, Amber (Nick) Hartman, Leanna (Jared Santos) Hartsock and Michelle (Michael) Glascock; and her cousins, Madi, Kenzi, Chase, Megan and Matthew.
Jozie was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Virgil and Clara Kraemer, Dean and Betty Junck, Robert Bock Sr., and Wanna Elrod.
Jozie’s strength and resilience throughout this journey became a beacon for the entire Freeburg community. The love and support from her classmates, friends, and neighbors meant everything to her and her family. Through her bravery and fierce spirit, Jozie inspired the “Jozie Strong” movement, a powerful reminder of courage, love, and standing strong in the face of adversity. Her impact has made a permanent mark on the community and in the hearts of those who knew her.
Though her time here was far too short, Jozie’s light, her laughter, and her incredible heart will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, authenticity, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A funeral service to celebrate Jozie’s incredible life will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home in Belleville, Illinois on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 1:00 P.M.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.
Jozie’s family encourages everyone to bring a special photo to place on a photo board at the funeral home, as a special way for everyone to reflect on the wonderful memories shared with her.
Her family also encourages everyone wear pink in honor of Jozie’s favorite color and her bright, shining spirit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Kids With Cancer.
