

Melvin Jackie Robinson, 82, born on March 1, 1932 in East St. Louis, IL passed away on May 5, 2014 in Belleville, IL. He was one of 13 children born to Everett and Ethel Robinson. Mr. Robinson retired as a switchman for the railroad and was a member of Gothic Lodge #852, AF & AM and a life member of VFW Post #8677. He proudly served in the US Navy and was an avid gardener, fisherman, and singer known to his friends as “Singer Jack.” Melvin was a member of Grace Church in Fairview Heights, IL. Above all else, Mr. Robinson loved his grandkids and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, JoAnn, nee Thompson, Robinson; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Robinson.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas Robinson and Michael Robinson; grandchildren, Jerry (Aimee), Joey, Scott (Mindy), and Nick Robinson and Kelsey Collins; great grandchildren, Janie and Jordynn; and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, IL 62223. Service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10 am with Pastor Keith Warfield officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
