

Mildred I. (Heisner) Davis, 90, passed into the arms of our Lord on Saturday morning, December 15, 2012, at Elmcroft of Muncie. She was born on March 26, 1922 in East St. Louis, IL. The daughter of Leonard H. and Mary K. (Feltmeyer) Heisner, she was raised in Pinckneyville, IL. Following her marriage to Samuel J. Davis on August 14, 1943, they moved to Washington, IN where they lived and raised their two children, Stephen J. Davis & MarySue (Davis) Allen. Several years after her beloved Sam's death, Mildred moved to Carmel, IN where she lived for twenty two years. She moved to Muncie four years ago to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, where she was a resident of Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, MarySue Allen (husband, Terry), Yorktown; her daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Davis, Worden, IL; eight grandchildren; Andrea R. Wittmer (husband, Shawn), Evansville, IN; Jennifer S. Sipe, Carmel, IN; Samuel H. Davis, Worden, IL; Karoline M. Henson (husband, Jeremy), Cumming, GA; Katie J. Carrier (husband, Zach), Chicago, IL; Holly J. McKenna (husband, David), Roswell, GA; Stephen J. Davis, Jr. Worden, IL; & Ashley E. Griffith, Carmel, IN; Eight Great-grandchildren: Noah, Margot, and Adeline Wittmer; Elizabeth Carrier; Jack and Brody McKenna; Findley and Bridgett Henson; three brothers, Leonard J. Heisner (wife, Marilyn), Pinckneyville, IL; Nelvin Heisner, St. Louis, MO; and Eldon Bigham (wife, Gloria), Glen Carbon, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sam, her son Stephen, three sisters, Norma Heisner, Marie Stanton, and Betty Sims, and a brother, William Heisner.
Mildred was a loving & devoted Mother and Grandmother who set an outstanding example of service to others. As her children were growing up she spent many hours as a Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Den Mother. Mildred served as President and other offices of a variety of local literary and service organization in Washington, In. including the Daviess County Hospital Board, Browning Club, Eastern Star chapter #210, and Locomotive Engineers Ladies Auxiliary. She was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, Westminster Presbyterian in Washington, IN and later Orchard Park Presbyterian in Carmel, IN. Her love of the church is evident in the number of committees and offices that she tirelessly served.
Mildred managed Betsy's Hallmark and later Betsy's Gift Shop both in Washington, IN. Her creativity was evident in her love of painting as she was a member of the Daviess County Art League and enjoyed displaying her art at a variety of local events.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL. Burial will follow in Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
Friends may call at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
