Alice Parsons passed peacefully to the next stage of her journey Sunday, January 5th under the care of Evergreen Hospice. Alice lived most recently in Redmond, Washington. Alice dedicated her 94 years to serving family and community. Her dynamic presence brightened and enriched the lives of all who knew her. Born Alice Mary Parsons on April 3rd, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska Alice spent most of her life- 51 years (1954-2005) in Southern California. She briefly attended the University of Iowa after the onset of World War II. She was keenly interested in studying journalism and was a self-described lifelong “news junkie”. She met the love of her life Robert Parsons by chance at a USO dance in Omaha in 1944. After finding out they had much in common including growing up across the street from each over without ever meeting before, they were married after the war on May 5th, 1947. This was the beginning of a 45-year partnership marked by love, travel, service, and enjoying life together to the fullest every day. With Bob, Alice raised two children. As a West Covina, California resident from 1954 to 2005 she was active in numerous civic, youth and church programs. She helped organize and became a charter member of the West Covina League of Women Voters in 1956. She was instrumental in expanding the unit to status as the East San Gabriel Valley Chapter and served as president. In 1970 she was only the second woman to be honored as Citizen of the Year by the West Covina’s Chamber of Commerce. Her energetic spirit fueled thousands of hours of service to the West Covina Women's Club, and many other organizations. Alice was a devoted member of Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Washington and a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Covina, California. Whether she was completing the toughest crossword, watching sports or reading one of the dozens of novels she read every year, Alice’s keen curiosity and intelligence informed all her pursuits. Alice’s loving survivors include brother, Bill Bauer; son, Stephen and his wife, Mary; daughter Julia; three grandchildren (Connie, Lori and Jason), and three great grandchildren.
