Fondly remembering Bernard as one of the most influential teachers I had at Venice High School.  Rest Peacefully my friend.

I am from the class of 1992.  He was  my favorite teacher at Venice High School. School wasn’t easy for me back then and I didn’t have many friends. He was always nice to me even though deep down my work was of average talent. That didn’t matter to him and for four long years he tried to tech me how to create. I will miss him. I wish life had slowed down sooner for me as it has lately. I find myself only now fondly thinking of people like him and how he touched my life. Thanks you Mr. R ,  till we meet again.

Even though I did not know you - your impact on the earth is not without affect - from your book on Alaska your departing words were "Fish Hard. Die Free" my friend - I know where you are now and you thought Alaska was good - well indeed here on earth that is very true - but now your expoloring what Eternity will be about - so for this time instead of fish on!  It's live on !  Death is but an open door to that other world where we begin again our journey and destiny beyond the grave.  Farwell. God be with you on your new journey.

I was shocked when I read of Bernard’s death, known all my life a “Bud” until he got upset at me for calling him by his high school name.  
I also made a few mistakes in my original post.  Bernard’s father was Sherwin, not Sherman (auto correct I think).  I also did not read all of the posts from his friends before I responded.  I remember well the Gegg family and the incredible hospitality I experienced at their family farm.  I also remember having a small bottle of moonshine for years one of Gail’s brothers served the gathered group and the sausages I bought for a few years afterwards.  I am so glad the Glegg family embraced Bernard (aka Bud) after Gail’s death.
I have even more memories of events Bernard probably did not admit to Gail's family.  We usually partied at his house in Flint when Sherwin was out of town. I remember his sister screaming wildly after he came in to the house carrying the hind quarters from a deer we had poached.  Worse was a time when a friend of mine he did not know blew up his father’s family room toilet with a cherry bomb while Bernard was out buying beer.  Water and porcelain everywhere.  
I also remembered visiting Bernard in his Florida apartment while we were both getting divorced.  He came out of the shower with a towel around his waist to view the rain storm I was watching with the front door open.  I grabbed the towel and pushed him outside and locked the door, leaving Bernard naked pounding on the door.  Neighbors must have loved it.

I just learned on Bernard’s death.  He and I were the absolute best friends in high school in Flint Michigan.  We hunted, fished and got in a lot of trouble together.  We had so much in common.  His father, Sherman, was a true character.  He had money growing up and dated my mother for a time before the war.  I still remember Bernard (known then as Bud) showing me his father’s WWII Marine uniforms with personalized Brooks Brother’s labels inside. We were so close, Sherman used to tease us suggesting we were gay.
I was Bernard’s best man in both of his first 2 wedding, as he was in mine.  I met him in Grayling, Michigan for the first and St. Charles (I think) Missouri for the second.  He came to Green Bay for my first and Los Gatos, California for my second.  We had so much in common.  We divorced our first wives and our seconds died.  
Bernard was waiting for me at my home in California the night I got home from San Francisco after taking the California Bar exam.  We had a great time and talked about growing old together.  Unfortunately, lives changed.  I was consumed by work and 4 children.  Bernard chose a different path.
We communicated by email a few years ago, but nothing happened even though I now live in Coeur d’Alene and have a daughter in Seattle.  The posted pictures reveal he was sick.  If someone reads this, please let me know what happened.  Email is crdeanjr@gmail.com.

I went to high school in Venice high from 1999-2002.  It was a really hard time in life for me where i didn’t fit in or get normal. My outlet was art. I was sitting i Mr. Corsby’s class, he had us drawing a close-up of an animal. Rosenberg had been visiting the classroom that day just to chat it up with Corsby when he walked by my seat and said, “that’s powerful art.” It helped me build confidence as a human being and i alsqays hold that with me. He made an impact on my life and i thank him for that. I hope his family knows this and reads this. My heart and love goes out to them.

Bernard and I became close friends  in 1990 when I moved from SHS to VHS in 1990. Thanks to him and his meticulous planning we fished Canada, Kodiak Alaska and Prudence Island as well as Sarasota. To say Bernard was an enigma is an under statement. He was a highly intelligent,  complicated man at times possessing multiple talents that surprised me more than once. I never met anyone like him and most likely never will again in my lifetime.  He introduced me to places and sights I had never experienced before meeting him. He definitely broadened my horizons in many ways and for that I am forever grateful for our thirty five year friendship.
Thanks for all you did for me Bernard. You were a handful at times but I always loved you regardless. Rest in peace my friend.

Bernard was my teacher, mentor and friend. He got me back into art after losing my passion. I took evening clay classes and we discovered Bernard and my fiancé had a crazy life connection. He had a passion for life and a wonderful sense of humor. Still can’t believe he gave me an “S” for conduct because I sometimes had chewing gum.🙃 He and then wife, Gail, attended our wedding and we would see them periodically until he moved away. He was one of my most favorite teachers at VHS and will be missed.

Mr  Rosenberg was my ceramics teacher at VHS. I enjoyed taking his classes and still have many of my projects I made back then. My condolences to friends and family.

Rest in Peace Bernard.  Enjoyed our time at Venice High together.

Bernard ,I and my wife were good friends with Bernard for 35 years. Fishing, party, and petting Manatee While we fished. Both of us loved Gail & Bernard. Was lucky to see him last fall. Stephanie and I want to extend our deepest condolences to Jianxia and the Rosenberg family.  Bernard was a dear friend and a longtime member of the Gegg family through his marriage to my sister Gail.   Bernard and Gail had a wonderful marriage, until Gail's passing in 2010.   Bernard stayed in touch with our family, and we went on trips to Sarasota, Lake Placid, Phoenix, and Alaska.  My father Vincent accompanied us on many of those trips. I assisted Bernard for several years with his financial affairs and income taxes.   He increased his financial acumen and became a very competent steward of his financial resources.  Bernard came to Phoenix in 2017 and stayed with me for 8 weeks as my caretaker after I had a bone marrow transplant.  We made many trips from our villa to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.   His excellent care contributed significantly to my recovery.  Bernard was a very talented artist, author, fisherman, and chef.  When he visited, he came with a bounteous collection of sea food caught during his fisheries.   He thoroughly enjoyed meticulous food preparation and cooking fine cuisine for family and friends.   We were blessed that he came and stayed with us for two weeks this past summer at our home and lake cabin in Kansas.   We were joined for part of that time by two of my brothers, Dale and Steve Gegg.  We had a great time boating, fishing, playing cards, dining on Bernard's cooking and sharing stories.   (I've uploaded several pictures from his stay.)   It was a refreshing and relaxing time and an opportunity to get reacquainted.  We will sadly miss him but cherish the many good times we had together.   May God through his mercy grant eternal rest to Bernard.

This is photo of Bernard fishing off the dock at our lake cabin.  We spent many hours fishing from the dock or from our pontoon boat (in the distance) on the lake.   Bernard was very relaxed during his visit, and we had great conversation and socializing throughout his stay.  The buckets in the foreground contain fireworks that Bernard shot off into the lake on July 4th.

Bernard was a very talented chef, and he had a deep appreciation for home cooked cuisine.   He's right at home in our kitchen in July 2024 and poses for this photo in the midst of food preparation and cooking.   I enjoyed watching him in the kitchen as he meticulously prepared food and cooked meals to his high standards.   He thoroughly enjoyed preparing fine meals and sharing them with friends and family.

This a photo taken on the deck of our lake cabin with Steve Gegg, Bernard, Dale Gegg and Stephanie Gegg.   Bernard loved to cook, and he prepared a fine luncheon meal featuring Kansas City style barbeque which was enjoyed by all.  You could always count on a fine meal when Bernard was in charge of food preparation and cooking.

This a photo of three Gegg brothers (Jim, Steve and Dale) with Bernard taken at Jim's home in Leawood, Kansas in July 2024.   Bernard came and spent about 2 weeks with Jim & Stephanie at their home and lake cabin in Kansas.  Two of Jim's brothers, Steve and Dale, came for a reunion of a gathering the four of us had at our winter home in Phoenix in 2017.  We had a great time fishing, playing cards, boating, dining on Bernard's cooking, and sharing stories from prior Gegg family gatherings.
